Heartland BioVentures - A Program of the Kansas Bioscience Authority

Federal Funding Enhancement

The Kansas Bioscience Authority is helping Kansas-based bioscience and technology entrepreneurs compete for more than $3 billion in federal grants to support product development and job creation.

Federal technology development financing programs such as the Small Business Innovation Research (SBIR) program can help Kansas companies secure vital capital at their earliest research and development stages.

These programs allow small firms to pursue innovative ideas too early for the venture capitalist, too high risk for the banker, and too expensive for internal funds. SBIR develops technology based firms by providing ‘idea money’ — an extremely valuable resource for developing new technologies. Perhaps more importantly, the program is a critical source of non-debt, non-equity capital for early stage companies.

The KBA provides promising Kansas companies with in-depth assistance to help Kansas companies write winning proposals for federal funding.

It offers bioscience and technology entrepreneurs:

  • Identification of appropriate strategic sources (public and private) of funding;
  • Access to program-specific agency managers and experts;
  • Mentoring, including scientific and editorial review of grant applications;
  • Facilitation of access to state and national post-award resources;
  • Working with other Kansas-based technology and economic development institutions, development of new infrastructure programs to enhance entrepreneurial activity and job creation.
