Sandra A. J. Lawrence
Chief Financial Officer and Executive Vice President
The Children’s Mercy Hospitals and Clinics

In December of 2005, Sandra A. J. Lawrence was named Chief Financial Officer and Executive Vice President of The Children’s Mercy Hospitals and Clinics (CMH), Kansas City’s exclusive pediatric medical center and healthcare network. In this capacity, she is responsible for the Hospital’s finance, accounting, managed care, patient financial services, human resources, information services, and government relations operations. Before joining the staff of CMH, Lawrence served six years on the Hospital Board and two years on the Hospital Foundation board.

Prior to her employment with CMH, Lawrence served as Chief Financial Officer and Senior Vice President of Midwest Research Institute, an independent, not-for-profit laboratory that conducts scientific, applied research and technology development in the areas of defense, energy and life sciences. Before that, she was Vice President of Administration for Gateway, the computer company; Director of MRI’s Center for Regional Development, specializing in statistics and economics; and President of Stern Brothers, a municipal, investment banking firm.

Ms. Lawrence’s current civic commitments include serving in her third and final year as the Board Chair of the Greater Kansas City Community Foundation; on the board, on the Compensation Committee, and as Chair of the Nominating and Governance Committee of Westar Energy; on the regional, market board of US Bank; on the board, on the Investment Committee and as Chair of the Audit Committee of the Hall Family Foundation; and as a trustee and a Finance Committee member of the Nelson-Atkins Museum of Art.

Ms. Lawrence received an MBA from Harvard Business School, concentrating in the areas of finance and real estate; a Master’s of Architecture from The Massachusetts Institute of Technology, specializing in civil engineering and urban design; and an A.B. from Vassar College with a major in psychology and an emphasis in statistics.

She and her husband, cardiologist Willie E. Lawrence, Jr., MD are the proud parents of Xavier, Westbrook, and MacKenzie.
